The Simplicity of Taking a Walk …

Movement and wellbeing are so intricately linked. Our bodies are always experiencing some kind of motion that supports our health, whether this be our hearts consistent beat, our lungs expanding with each breath or more outwardly dynamic movements such as walking, running or swimming.

Many are under the belief that exercise is only worthwhile or beneficial when performed at a level of high-intensity, and when ending in complete fatigue or pain.

It is the gentle and slow movement that can be most beneficial for us. Low intensity movement enables our bodies to reduce overall inflammation and stress levels throughout our body. This type of movement has been shown to result in weight loss that is natural and steady, as our body isn't constantly operating through a stress response.

Just some of the benefits of a 60 minute well-paced walk include; increasing motivation and energy, reducing inflammation in the body, supporting the immune system, igniting a healthy metabolism, as well as strengthening muscles, tissues and bones throughout the body.

The idea is to increase heart rate, but not to overexert ourselves to the point of increasing inflammation in our body.

We encourage walking as it is one of the simplest and most accessible forms of exercise. It requires no special equipment or training, and it can be done almost anywhere at any time.

Walking is much more than just a physical activity - emotionally oxygenating out in the elements is so beneficial for our brain, it allows for strength and resilience and the capacity for us to respond rather than react.

Connect to your surroundings, noticing how it brings a greater sense of gratitude and appreciation for the world around us and the life within us.

Go gently today, knowing; with momentum comes momentum - no matter the level of intensity.
