Hydration and the Colon …

Constipation is one of the most common concerns that our patients present with when visiting our space.

When we are dehydrated, there is less total water in our body, so to maintain cellular function within the whole body, the body reabsorbs what it can from our colon.

This eventually creates an imbalance in water content in the colon, leading to hardened faecal matter, and slowed peristalsis. Whilst this slowed rate causes a sluggish bowel it may also result in discomfort, bloating, pain, or severe impaction.

Adequate hydration ensures we have sufficient water levels in the body - the colon will be well lubricated; bowel movements can occur smoothly and more consistently.

The water that we consume, through direct drinking but also high-water content food aids in supporting the function of every cell in our bodies. Be mindful of this powerful daily ritual; although simple, proper hydration can bring about big change.

One of our valued patients shares a glimpse of how changing their water intake made such a positive difference to her general wellbeing.

'The key to this miracle was simple – my body required more WATER and at certain times of the day. The best thing about Nardia is she doesn’t want to sell you any supplements, she just gives you quality advice, and the science in a non-scientific manner about your water intake and good foods."  ~ JL

We know that implementing an appropriate hydration routine can help heal so much more than one system of the body. What seems like the simplest of advice can sometimes bring about challenges - we are here to guide you through this.

Keep an eye out for our next post where we will identify some of the symptoms related to health that may help us determine whether we are drinking enough water each day.
